Ready for the World

Aside from being an iconic R&B band from Flint, Michigan, Ready for the World is the ultimate aim of school.

Unfortunately, the lives that so many students live at school are completely removed from the world that they live in today and in no way engage them in the academic and social practices or the creative and communal pursuits that prepare them to successfully navigate their future professional or personal lives.

There is a flurry of chatter in policy circles and administrative offices about college and career readiness, but very little talk of or action about civic and financial literacy or social and community readiness.

Schooling should be more than learning about the world. Schooling should engage learners in the a range of experiences and relationships that make every learner more ready for the world.
